The Best Places to Eat in Florence, Italy

You’ll find some of the best food in the world when you make a trip to Italy, especially in Florence. Knowing the must-try pizza places, coffee shops, and gelaterias is essential for your trip so here’s a guide to the best places to eat in Florence, Italy!

Antica Pizzeria Reginè Firenze

I stumbled upon this place on my first night in Florence and it set the bar high for pizza in the city. The staff was super friendly, wine was super cheap, and of course, the pizza was great! Being within a 10-minute walk from Ponte Vecchio and Pitti Palace, it’s in a great location as well.

Panini Toscani

Trying a Panini from Panini Toscani is life changing. This tiny shop right next to the Florence Cathedral is home to the best panini sandwich you’ll ever eat. Paninis originated in Italy and can be found all over Florence, but you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t try one from here. With the highest quality of ingredients, you get to decide all you want on your sandwich and watch them make it right in front of you.

Gelateria La Carraia

A trip to Italy calls for gelato, gelato, and more gelato! This shop, being next to the Arno river, makes it a great option if you’re wanting to sit along the river and enjoy a sweet treat. You can’t go wrong with any of the flavors they have.

Ditta Artigianale

You can’t make a trip to Italy without trying the coffee and Ditta Artigianale is the place to do it. With two locations in the city, one on each side of the Arno River, going here is made easy. Both locations have a super modern, friendly atmosphere and it’s where you’ll find some of the best coffee in the city.

L’antica Pizzeria da Michele Firenze

This pizza restaurant originated in Naples in 1870 and now has locations all over, one being in Florence. The Naples location made an appearance in the Eat Pray Love movie and for good reason. You can taste the freshness of all the ingredients and the pizzas come a little bigger compared to other places in the city so come hungry! I recommend taking it to-go and enjoying it at one of the many plazas in the area.

Mercato Centrale Firenze

With the endless amount of food stalls, this market is a dream for any foodie! You could spend hours eating your way through this place and trust me, you’ll want to try everything. Come here early, as they close at 4 Monday-Thursday and at 6 Friday-Sunday. The vendors are extremely friendly and all that they have to offer is delicious!

Gelateria Perchè No!

Being down the street from the Florence Cathedral, as well as so many other famous landmarks, this gelato shop is a great place to stop if you’re exploring the center of the city. Meaning why not! in English, it’s a reminder to treat yourself to delicious gelato during your visit!

Gustapizza

If you’re looking for a quick bite to eat, this is the place! You can order your pizza to-go and find a nice place to sit outside or if dining in is your thing, they also have indoor seating. The pizza is also very inexpensive!

Wrapping it up

Trying all the food is part of the whole experience when visiting the beautiful city of Florence. You won’t just leave thinking about all the amazing art, architecture and culture, but the food as well. Use this guide to ensure you try the best places and make sure to try all there is to offer!
